Slavery was a long time ago here in US. I don't know which timeline or alternate universe you come from.
The reason we have so many programs for blacks/minorities is because white man decided you know what you had it rough we want to give you some extra boost in life just so that you don't feel like you are left behind.
Nope opression lets live in the past and never move on with our lives.
Alternative lets take away all the free shit you have been given then see you cry even harder. If you still want to not recognise all the extra opportunities you have been provided we just roll back to the whatever century you are so like to remind us and finish what we started.
Reminder: the United States set out to abolish slavery sooner than 100 years of it’s inception and fought an incredibly bloody war among its own people to see it through. One could argue as soon as we could focus on domestic issues, this was easily one of the first and most important.
To put it in perspective, can anybody name a single example of holding the UK responsible for any action against US citizens today?
Of corse not, because that is an irrational stance to take, much like saying we held slaves at one point, so we can never be forgiven as Americans and must continue to pay for what happened many generations ago.
But it serves a political purpose to label people as victims, so there will continue to be ignorant people who somehow think it is relevant to bring up when they find it advantageous.
