There is already a war between NATO and Russia being played out because Russia can't stop trying to rob its neighbors. They have as much claim to Ukraine as Mexico has to Texas.

There is another country at their border, and they have the right to self-determination like every other country. They wouldn't feel the urge to join NATO or EU if they didn't have a foreign power trying to infiltrate their political system and turn them into a vassal state, then forcefully invade them when that failed. Ukraine is a country who has Russian military in their areas of Donetsk, Luhansk, and Crimea, so they are already being attacked by Russia. Russia justified this by citing Stalinism's deportation of ethnic Russians to Ukraine, another crime of the Russians against their neighbors and people.

I'm sorry, but taking a stand against self-defense isn't respectable to me. I believe that every creature has the fundamental right to use its power to defend itself. That could be power of force or persuasion. It seems you are against this fundamental right.

The first steps of this invasion was when Russians occupied Crimea....it was Hitler's Austria moment. Appeasement is what led to this war, because appeasement only serves to widen conflicts. It needs to be nipped, and it has been. What a spectacular failure of a regime change.

We're not talking about self defense Skinned. We're talking about the world's most powerful alliance moving right up to Russia's border, taking territory the USSR had left without a single shot fired because of negotiations where NATO had given security guarantees.

Those promises were broken. No one gave a fuck. And Russia is pissed and rightfully so.

Continuing the cold war has backfired for NATO. It's history, deal with it.

This war wouldn't exist if America acted in its own interests, or in the interests of the Ukrainians. It exists because Russia acts in its own interests. We're spending more than the Afghanistan war budget to scorch the earth in Ukraine while pretending we have a moral high ground, when the entire affair could have been avoided if we had just preserved the status quo. But no, the lessons of the Afghan intervention, Iraq intervention, Syrian intervention, Yemen, Libya, the rest of the Arab Spring, all haven't been learned.
