I think the fact that Trump came surprisingly close plays a role here. If Biden had won by the ~8% that polls predicted, the bubble would have burst in one fell swoop. These people believed in a "shy Trump vote" and that the whole media narrative surrounding the election was out of touch with reality or deliberate propaganda to undermine morale and depress turnout among Trump supporters. And then there were indeed far more Trump voters than convention wisdom expected, the election was far more competitive and close than predicted, which kind of validates all of those beliefs.
Having gotten so close and having to ask "what if" makes the loss much more bitter for those who were really emotionally invested in a second Trump term. Sometimes, if your football team loses a game 30-42, that's less bitter and soul-crushing than losing 30-32 after the other team hit its last second hail mary.
I dont think Biden winning by any margin would change how it is being handled. If its close then Don wins if not for fraud. If its a blowout then there's no way that could have happened without cheating. When you're detached from reality it doesnt matter what happens.
