https://www.kansascity.com/news/politics-government/election/article220193095.htmlhere's a fun joke
After 2 years of listening to the left scream about how the media's victimization complex and insistence that Trump is an authoritarian tyrant censoring the free press and failing to protect journalists- the same week as the Saudi's dicing a journalist into small cubes- Claire McCaskill's campaign has responded to the Project Veritas secret video footage that exposed her lying about her political positions... by demanding the Attorney General for Missouri lock up the journalists.
>U.S. Sen. Claire McCaskill’s campaign is demanding Attorney General Josh Hawley open a fraud investigation into hidden-camera videos released this week by a nonprofit run by conservative activist James O’Keefe.
>The videos show O’Keefe’s Project Veritas Action Fund going undercover to secretly interview members of McCaskill’s campaign. The group, a 501c4 nonprofit, advertised the videos as proof that McCaskill, a Democrat, has been hiding her views on guns and abortion from Missouri voters.
Of course its completely absurd from a legal standpoint on multiple grounds. Even if the MMPA was applicable, it would a violation of the 1st amendment to use it to censor journalists. But the MMPA isn't applicable, because that governs only commercial merchandising with an ascertainable lost value of money or property due to fraud. Its right there in the four-pronged test for MMPA relief;
https://bell-law-kc.com/8-things-you-need-to-know-about-the-missouri-merchandising-practices-act/So Claire McCaskill's campaign is unironically calling for locking up journalists because they ran a sting hit piece on her. She's demanding a special prosecutor to lock up her political opponents based on an infinitely stretched reinterpretation of already vague statutes, in a manner that's not even consistent with the statute anyway let alone constitutional.
