Dogs are the only animal that spends 1/20th of its life sucking on its own ass

...and the factory farmed pig you eat spends 100% of it's life marinating in and eating it's own shit and the shit and rotting carcasses of it's brethren.

When you get down to it mate - we're all shit eaters... to a maximum of about 1 mg per pound of consumed vegetable or meat matter according to FDA guidelines.

The difference between a dog and pig though is that they exist in entirely different schemas in the minds of Western society. Pigs and dogs are both animals, but dogs are also "pets" and pigs are not. This creates a fundamental difference.

But yea - I get your point.

People should eat whatever they're comfortable eating, is safe to eat and can be legally acquired. It's an individual decision and while societal norms often influence that decision for individuals they are not a good enough reason to denigrate another for enjoying as they wish.

A far better reason is the animal suffering caused by factory farming which is why I brought it up. Pretty hypocritical to deride another for eating something you don't want to eat while you chow down on animals that have lived such terrible lives.

It comes down to people being so arrogant and self absorbed that they value the 'ick factor' as they experience it over serious moral consideration.

Certainly, I agree with you. Not to disagree, but perhaps rather to add: I think the reality is that most people are apathetic about animals, but "pets" are salient.

It’s an animal. I’ve never understood how people are fine with eating beef, lamb, chicken, deer, etc., but god forbid someone eat a cat or a dog. Seriously what the fuck is the difference?

One is a pet.
