Paul Ryan couldn't control the freedom caucus in 2016 either with a GOP trifecta. It didn't fall apart as spectacularly as McCarthy this year, but this is a systemic GOP issue, not a 2022 congress issue.

Paul Ryan and the freedom caucus had very different policy agendas, so it's not surprising they butted heads.
I already replied to the systemic factors underlying the troubles of GOP leadership to control their caucus last page:

On a broader note, this difference in leadership difficulty/caucus cohesion between Democrats and Republicans is caused by a fundamental asymmetry between the two parties: Democrats have a large set of shared ideological positions, virtually all of them agree on the general direction in which they want to steer the country. Their disagreement largely comes down to how far and how quick they want to go down this path. Republicans, on the other hand, have much deeper ideological divisions within their ranks, the direction Trump or Gaetz want is very different from the direction a Romney or a McConnell want.

Additionally, Republicans generally want to reduce the scope of (the federal) government, so they're rather happy with obstruction and gridlock. By contrast, Democrats want to proactively pass legislation, want the government to shape and change the status quo. This shared goal means that neither mainstream liberals nor hardcore progressives have an interest in obstruction.

The only thing i'd add is that some democrats do see gridlock and lack of public services rendered as a slight net positive. obviously they, unlike republicans, openly recognize the harm this causes. However, at the same time there's a growing sentiment in the parties far left wing that the current system is unfixable. that requires large upheaval in order to reset us to a place where we can totally dismantle and restructure.

this is of course a large uphill battle for them, because they're bound by the rules of law. whereas republicans can simply, and legally, remove rights and entitlements. Democrats are by contrast tasked with not just change, but codifying that change into law that will withstand eventual legal challenge. there's so many brick walls for doom and gloomers on the left to run into. Hate the electoral college, too bad it can not be undone. Hate the corporate landscape of america and capitalism, too bad its here to stay. Hate career politicians, too bad they run your party and will only pass on leadership to likeminded people. etc.

If you think the dem coalition is more ideologically cohesive than the right, then I've got a bridge to sell you. The problem with the republican house caucus is they've just got a handful of bomb throwers who want to burn it all down just because they can.

he's right tho imo, both sides of the DNC have on a platform level similar to same ideological aims. its pace and scope that they differ on.

i used to think the GOP has rogue bomb throwers too, but there's too many these days to consider them rogue agents, imo. the freedom caucus started as the same, a few cookie libertarian types that built a legitimate threat to the GOP's agenda. the left doesnt pose that same threat at all, its just chirps from AOC and Ilhan before they begrudgingly vote along. i cant imagine a world where AOC challenges Pelosi ala Gaetz/McCarthy, if that's not cohesion what is?

Can you name me any field on which there are divisions between mainstream democrats and far-left progressives which are as deep as the divisions on foreign policy between neocon republicans and maga republicans?

When did Snipa get based?

It's been written about for damn near 100 years now how easy it is for fascists and right wing authoritarians to codify their beliefs in law compared to moving away from it.

Mostly because you can become a fascist dictator while still being capitalist, so the underlying mechanics of the economy tend to just stay on your side as long as you're still tossing them a bone.
