seriously though what is it about Rand Paul that provokes people into threats and violence that even Ron Paul never had to deal with
Rand isn't even much of a firebrand. Ideologically outspoken and regularly votes against his party sure, but is that all it takes to get people to want to murder him on a regular basis?

• Mass assassination attempt by James T Hogkingson shooting at him
  
• His liberal neighbor going apeshit and nearly killing him in a blindside attack over a yard trimming dispute
  
• Two democratic staffers conspiring to threaten and doxx him using congressional computers to leak personal information about both Rand and his family members/children
  
• Mobs following him around during the kavanaugh hearing menacing him at restaurants
  
• A man arrested for leaving death threats at his home and office phone numbers saying he'd chop up rand paul's children with an axe (was involuntarily committed and medicated last I checked)
  
• Liberal media criticizing him for seeking healthcare for the attack by his neighbor from the canadian clinic that specialized in that healthcare
  
• Media attacking him and only him for not self-isolating pending his test results even though half of fucking washington is doing the same thing

Violent revolution / assassinations / political violence have no place in civil society and both should never be used to affect change and usually backfire when attempted. But once civil society completely breaks down, violence is generally the only recourse to assert power and restore order. The mistake of both terrorist fanatics and authoritarian governments is that they warp their perception into believing civil society has reached that point when it really hasn't. Its how we get cultural marxists who scream death to billionaires while sipping on a starbucks mocha cappucino and reading reddit on their iphone.

However, we're legitimately closer to the collapse of society today than we have been at any point in my lifetime. And yet, we're still a very, very long way from that point. People are basically taking an extended holiday, the utilities still work, people are fed, so what. People who think microaggressions are a life and death situation are the irrational ones, our society could endure mass casualties and prolonged depression and still be function. But if it one day comes to the point of a true boogaloo, I'll be the one riding around on the back of a humvee with the 50 cal mounted to it.
