This was the man that would have won against Trump, IMO.

Hindsight is 20/20 and I would have pegged Hillary Clinton as being the stronger candidate entering the general election, but it's clear that the American people wanted an anti-establishment candidate this year.
Sanders' message about restoring wages to the middle and working class resonated very strongly in the DNC primary voters in places like Michigan and the Rust Belt that ultimately won Trump the election.
Combine that fact with drastically increasing the millenial turnout and margins compared to Hillary Clinton and there was definitely a real possibility that he would have won this election.
But as I said, hindsight is 20/20 and HRC appeared to be the conventionally stronger candidate. I don't think it was necessarily a mistake to go with her, I just think the DNC did themselves a massive disservice by alienating a large portion of their base by running an unfair primary.
