as the article says: either trump felt sympathy for the guy because he sees him as a victim of a special counsel run amok, like himself. or he is trying to send a message to guys like cohen that he will pardon them in the end if they dont blow the whistle on him.

either way, its a really bad move that makes trump look sympathetic to corruption and disregard of the law.
