I hope you do realize that the republican party is not following a uniform ideology. There are wings and factions.

Realistically, what Trump did in 2015 and 2016 was a hostile takeover of the republican party. He forced a massive shift of priorities onto the GOP, and this has left a lot of the Jeff Flake, John McCain, George W. Bush type of republicans behind. And the majority of the self-identifying republicans among scholars probably belongs to this establishment-interventionist-soft-on-immigration wing of the party, which hates Trump almost as much as the dems.

The relative uniformity of the three rankings by political party suggests their opinions are based on educated, impartial analysis of the presidents' actual merits, rather than on agreement with political ideology (see e.g. Democrats' ranking of Reagan and Republicans' ranking of FDR).

Of course, we're only a year in so it's incredibly premature to make any confident claims about his presidency or even Obama's, but it suggests we're not off to a good start.

Anyway, I agree that it's too premature to really rank Trump, or any president for that matter, after just one year in office.
At this point in his presidency, George W. Bush would probably have been ranked in the top10 or so....

Nobdy can deny that Trump got off to a very rocky start. I just wanted to point out that your argument "look, even repulbican scholars think trump sucks" might be flawed since those republican scholars probably belong to the strain of republicanism most opposed to Trump.
