Although there are other factors. One theory states that the south never recovered from the 1800's because the southern aristocracy was slaughtered indiscriminately during the civil war. Not only were those aristocrats the highest IQ population., they knew American history and knew how to fight - just not enough to overcome the north.
The other theory is that our politicians were bought out in the late 1900's by foreign tyrants and ended up selling their voters out through globalization and crony capitalism. The fentanyl and opioid crisis is the cherry on top.
Rural white IQ is lower. That’s
obviously because of white genetics, not socio-economic or environmental differences with urban and suburban whites.
