I think it is weird that this movie failing is so important to you people. So much significance in weird things.

Lovecraft was a reactionary through and through.
If he was talking about the Republican party rather than Republican ideals (which might well be possible), then his quote would have referred to the pre-nowadays Republican party.
He lived in a time in which the Republican and the Democratic parties weren't quite what they are today.

Lovecraft created his Cthulhu mythos as a less scary alternative to the nihilistic universe that we actually live in.

I absolutely adore Lovecraft's work but it became a lot easier to understand when I realized that Cthulhu et al. are just minorities and the degradation of white supremacy.

Do I really strike you as a Christian conservative? Also, what bullshit are you referring to in the GOP? I'd be more than willing to join the Democrat party if they represented my beliefs.

I'm just making a guess. I've had trouble figuring you out. You seem to be a conflicted man, like AiNedeSpelCzech was referring to.

If I had to guess, I would say you are a Christian. Maybe Catholic? I would also guess you are mostly Conservative, though I'd also guess you've dabbled with Democrats a little more recently. A Conservative that has become a little more moderate recently.

Those are my guesses.

As far the GOP, I think they have been a dysfunctional and bad party since 2001. I think they were a quite productive party really before that, but I think they have fallen off the deep end and aren't helping America any more. George W. Bush's presidency was a disaster, the GOP and Tea Party have essentially been obstructionists since Obama took office, and now Donald Trump is their nominee for president, which speaks for itself.

There's certainly a place for Conservative thought and fiscal Conservatism in American politics, I just don't think that the GOP has been doing a good job of it really since about 2001.

Well you're right that I'm Catholic. We're the fucking best. As for political thought, I'm not sure how many "conservative" views I have because I don't really see issues as necessarily "right" or "left." I'm not trying to avoid labels or be contrarian, it's that I believe that technology solves more problems and raises our standard of living more than any government program. Anything that invests in technology, I'm generally for (defense spending, certain subsidies, etc.) Without a doubt, I think I lean right when it comes to SCOTUS issues. That's probably one area where I could be labeled as a solid conservative.

I'm not sure why you think the GOP was dysfunctional in 2001 given that they did quite well in 2004 (at all levels). I think the dysfunction started in 2008 after the financial crisis.

I didn't see this response until now, but I think I was pretty much right on the money. How did you think I did?

-Catholic
-Mostly Conservative
-Dabbled in more political moderation in recent times

Couldn't possibly agree more :hail:

Although I'd add that freedom to use that technology is necessary as well. "Ethical" stoppers on designer babies, which would enormously improve quality of life are barbaric, as are laws against researching and using psychedelic drugs and many other life enriching substances, etc., which massively affects psychopharmacological research in general, etc. etc.

Butchering a beloved franchise is worth getting upset over.

I personally don't care because I'm not a Ghostbusters fan, but if they rereleased one of my favorite works of art and butchered it I'd be happy it failed too.

P.S. haven't seen it but it'd have to be 30x better than the trailer to be even just below average.

Saw the trailer.
Rather shove rusty spoons up my asshole before I go watch it.
Seems like it's on the level of shit like White Chicks.
