Hey if you want to read into this McCabe scandal and get pretty well versed on it, heres the WSJ article he leaked to anonymously during the election, which is what got him fired:
http://archive.is/u1RODNotably, he went to great efforts to paint the Weiner laptop delay as being jurisdictional and the fault of the DoJ for not authorizing subpoenas, as well as casting himself as a nonpartisan torn between a political third rail and a nonthingburger investigation into the emails. Thats their narrative from his anonymous sources. Then when they talked to lower level rank and file FBI,
they said the investigation was being obstructed by McCabe. Who ordered them to stand down, even when they had good evidence.
Also notably, Comey testified under oath that he had never given approval for anyone under him to leak to the media anonymously. But in McCabes statement yesterday upon getting the pink slip, McCabe said
Quote
The OIG investigation has focused on information I chose to share with a reporter through my public affairs officer and a legal counselor. As Deputy Director, I was one of only a few people who had the authority to do that. It was not a secret, it took place over several days, and others, including the Director, were aware of the interaction with the reporter. It was the type of exchange with the media that the Deputy Director oversees several times per week.
And comey under oath said:
Quote
Asked if he had “ever been an anonymous source in news reports about matters relating to the Trump investigation or the Clinton investigation” or whether he had “ever authorized someone else at the FBI to be an anonymous source in news reports about the Trump investigation or the Clinton investigation,” Comey replied “never” and “no.”
not quite a total contradiction, but it throws Comey under the bus for perjury if he has to argue that he
knew McCabe was leaking anonymously and and had talked to him about it, but "didnt approve" yet allowed it to happen. He could argue he learned about it after the fact, that door is still open
Comey could also argue his technicality that neither he nor mccabe
directly leaked to the media, but intentionally used go-betweens like mccabes public affairs officer, so they could maintain plausible deniability and lie under oath about it. Which still leaves them both liable for misleading investigators and perjury anyway, since its being intentionally misleading under oath
