Manafort is in big trouble. Mueller has found a ton of stuff he did illegally with money laundering and lobbying unregistered etc. He is saying that the judge should throw it out because it shouldn't be in scope of the investigation.

I agree. He's gonna be the scapegoat, and his money laundering does indeed not fall under the original scope or intent of the Mueller investigation...

Seems like a really weak argument... Rosenstein gave Mueller a wide mandate and he's taking advantage of it.

it's technically legal, but it clearly wasnt the intent of the Mueller investigation either.

Our notions of the intent of the Mueller investigation are irrelevant, what matters is what the mandate says he can investigate.

I am happy that scumbags like Manafort will face justice. I just have the feeling that the scope of the Mueller investigation is deliberately chosen in an overbroad way to punish persons who affiliated themselves with Trump, and to deter persons who have anything to hide from associating with him in the future.
