That aside, it's not fair to compare the outbreak responses side by side. The US is seeing the outbreak come from many points along both coasts. The Chinese government has some advantages in combating the spread. They are an authoritarian regime who is willing to sacrifice (or even kill) their own people for the greater good. And they control their internet completely, so true information doesn't get out.

If Trump tried to respond to the crisis the way China did, you'd be infinitely more upset with him. The riots would probably have started already.

im not sure that logic is very consistent. China used violence and oppressive tactics to stop the spread. and it still spread. and they were still blamed for the spread. so are you saying they should have been more oppressive?

if mean if we set aside their media coverup campaign, what should they have done more of? just grab sick people, shoot them, and burn the bodies?

half of the "china fucked up" narrative is about them censoring and lying about numbers, the other half is anger that it spread from there. and the only way to change that is by china being even worse, whether their media reported the tactics or not.

Yeah it's pretty serious. Also the economic implications can be catastrophic, many countries in the world are stacking greenbacks as reserve currency. If the dollar implodes the effects of the 2008 crisis will only be like a minor ripple on the graphs.

No. I'm not criticizing the Chinese response. They took care of their country to the best of the their ability. Was the response perfect? Maybe not. I don't really know the details of their response well enough to pass accurate judgement. Maybe they did kill people (or at least cut them off from treatment, essentially letting them die).



China's response fucked it up for the rest of the world. They put other countries in untenable situations. Other countries are the ones that had to deal with inaccurate information and unpredictable points of entry.

i agree China's information is inexcusable. what im saying is most of the people who are cheering on Trump calling this the "china virus" aren't thinking that deep. they're just shallowly blaming them for not stopping it, and when it is proven the US couldn't stop it either, it will be ironic.

No, because you are not comparing apples to apples. China's threat and the US threat are different in nature, for all the reasons I stated in my previous comment.

It looks like China has a chance to keep their total deaths under 5,000. The number of US deaths will almost surely be much higher. But you can't just look at the outcome in order to judge the response. You must consider the outcome relative to the threat.

In German media, I read an article yesterday about dissident doctors ringing the alarm that it's already spreading a ton in their country and how the government is trying to cover it up.
