we have to clearly distinguish betweem refugees and migrants that come here to work, thats actually not happening and one of the big problems
skilled workers can come here legally, the EU and its member countries provide lots of opprtunities for that
we dont need more construction workers, the market is already more than full with eastern europeans with shitty pay and terrible working conditions
there is no extra need for low skilled labor in all of europe, just look at the unemployment and especially in germany there is a strategy of getting every possible person into the country to keep the costs low, while spreading a fake narrative of a lack of skilled workers/engineers etc
and dont get me started on the loopholes that we have, there is a massive problem with eastern europeans (mostly gypsy clans) creating fake corporations with fake contracts to get access to our welfare state (i will gladly provide a shitton of sources if you like)
no sane person would ever oppose getting actual craftsman and academics and these people will be just fine, they dont need babysitting
as a matter of fact the EU and its states cant even deal with the migration movements on our own continent and thats one of the reasons for brexit
refugees however, by definition, get temporary protection so there is no need for integration
i do not oppose language courses and education, since you mentioned construction workers it might be a great idea to provide training opportunities
if there is a country on the planet right now, that does need young and strong workers its syria, if at least some speak our languages its even better
sending refugees back to rebuild their towns and cities with european know-how, all sides could profit from that, but the EU does NOT plan to ever send people back, instead they even plan to bring in more refugees/migrants by the millions
it looks like government forces will soon attack idlib and if that battle is concluded the last excuse for refugees not returning to syria will have vanished
as a matter of fact most of syria is already safe
the third and largest group are illegal migrants, there is no need to do anything with them in europe except deportation
"The whole west is shutting down."
thats a weird statement, when the exact opposite is happening as i mentioned above
africa alone produces over 700k more people per week, just a look at the numbers will make every sane person realise that mass migration can never be the solution
to make things even more ridiculous, we are talking about some of the most densely populated countries on earth, we certainly dont need more inhabitants,
at current rate especially the muslim population will grow dramatically and they will make an impact on our state (the netherlands already have their migrant party with unacceptable views), native young children are already a minority in countries like germany, simple mathematics will do the rest
you do know the video with the "gum ball guy"? i am sure you do and he makes it pretty clear that we are not solving the problem
Hmm, distinguishing between "illegal" migrants and refugees, now that's a bit of a problem, would actually be made easier if we would allow them to fly them in by plane, from the countries you'd flee from, with a specific maximum each year ofc to be accepted. Entry by plane would make it easier to see where ppl come from to send them back when a refugee status is denied. The problem is that we've closed those paths of entry for refugees in 2001 (in an effort to fight illegal immigration). Meaning that the only way to get entry to Europe as a refugee is by boat, or over land. In order to reduce illegal immigration we've helped creating a market for human traffickers. We've raised the bar to get in and made determining who is a refugee a problem with it. To relate this to the last part of your post, the gumbel guy, (needed to look that up) was saying we can't let everybody immigrate, that is considered to be living in poverty, that's somewhat of a no-brainer, due to the numbers. I don't think Europe has "elitists" that are promoting immigration to fight poverty world wide. The only reason to do it imo, is to increase the size of economy locally. More ppl living in a country, is simply a larger market to make use of, to tax, fewer roads needed per driving car, more ppl sharing a sewage system, etc. You're upscaling the number of citizens using the same facilities. That, and ofc, creating a pyramid demographic graph with age on the y axis and age on the x axis. More fit ppl that can work, compared to those that cannot. The likelyness of the advantages outweighing the disadvantages for Europe in this time are rather questionable right now. For one part, the current refugees that go back only cost money. And for those that immigrate, it's rather difficult to get a job as a status holder, also for those that abused the system to get in. I also see the argument that we already have upscaled quite a bit, to a point of already being densely populated. We don't need one child policies, but should be hesitant in increasing our population. It's better to have free movement of ppl within Europe to fill in the gaps in sectors. I mean, we do need ppl in construction right now, if we can employ Greek ppl, I'm all for it. The downside of that system is that mainly lower income sectors that do not have a shortage of employees, will still have to compete with countries with lower minimum wages. So we need more tools to not widen the wealth gap within our countries or the EU, to balance it out.
Apart from all of that. I'm still for opening the border as a wealthy continent, to accept the same number of refugees as Lebanon does on its own.. But yeah, like the gumball guy said: We should put more effort in helping the ppl there, reducing the need to leave your home. Financing and improving living condition in refugee camps around Syria is also a good idea, something we've not done enough.
