Tariffs are a shitty protectionist idea that benefits people in one industry at the expense of the general public.

This is a big problem with electing a cocky NY liberal turned populist republican as president instead of a firmly principled and more economically knowledgeable candidate like a Rand Paul.
Protectionism was one of the big issues i called him out on when he was talking about it during the election cycle and an issue i've been very vocal about in the past.

There is widespread sentiment and ignorance supporting protectionism and 'buy local' fallacies. They pass off junk like this as being 'pro-america' when its not.



You brought up obscure taxes on solar panels in response to me recognizing that republicans are generally more supportive of economic freedom and capitalism and have a number of libertarians in the party.. and then you say I cherry pick? lmao.

Trump posturing and making dumb remarks about gun control and supporting measures to a much lesser extent than what the democrats want doesn't suddenly make the entire party worse on the issue than democrats, nor does it erase the countless debates i've had on here vs leftists who were supporting anti-libertarian positions.

Rather than the extreme hitler-like figure the left enjoys painting trump as, hes much more of a flaky moderate on the actual issues.

Significant portions of the republican party remain much more similar to libertarians on a plethora of key issues than the extremely low standard of the hyper-authoritarian democrats, even if significant differences exist.
Its not close and its not really worth talking about anymore if you are unable to recognize and admit the obvious.
