Perhaps because they work hand-in-hand with CNN and other organizations to curate the news for their particular audiences to maximize profit. And this story also marginalizes the power of the police state. Both of the mainstream parties have to defend authoritarians.

People who look to any of these entities for the truth will find it occasionally hidden down the page in small print. This allows us some confirmation bias. Shep Smith helps conservatives swallow Sean Hannity's daily load. NPR helps liberals shepherd themselves into consuming a daily overdose of HuffPo, Maddow, and Blitzer. But usually it's just rabble rousing capitalists.

Which actions were corrupt?

The investigation didn't begin because of the Steele dossier, Steele was a credible person who worked with the FBI before, some of Steele's reporting was corroborated by the FBI, Carter Page had been on the FBI's radar for years, the FISA application revealed that the source of the information was trying to discredit Trump's campaign, etc.

I'm honestly confused why some right-wingers are saying the application should've made it clear the funding came from the DNC/Hillary campaign... how is that substantially different from some Democratic donor or PAC?

you're suggesting negligence based on how you feel warrant applications should be filed to FISA courts, not on how they regularly are. you can make a case that procedures should change, but the FISA courts are a rubber stamp as it currently is, and was in 2015-2016. Negligence isn't the right word, at all. Operating in a shitty meta for their own convenience in a legal manner is more accurate.

i fail to see how playing by rules you didnt set is negligent. when the active meta is to push FISA warrants with whatever you can scrape together doing so isn't negligent. if you want to make some overarching argument that the FBI has some duty to the people and to be fair in all warrant applications regardless of the requirements of the courts themselves that seems like a call for a rules change. human nature follows the path of least resistance, especially when the stakes are as high as espionage or terrorism. following the same logic no person should be surveiled without notice imo. again, the courts rules may be negligent but those following them arent. they would have to be doing a worse job than agents on other cases, i havent seen any proof for that and plenty against it.
