I think part of understanding the abortion question should also include the question: when a woman becomes pregnant, how much of that decision of getting pregnant goes towards whether they ought to be responsible for the baby?
I think at least the majority of people agree that if people casually have sex, and casually get abortions, that is a pretty crappy situation. Human life is precious, we can all agree on that.
Ending the life of an unborn child is controversial, and I understand why many people are adamant in their positions, but we can at least find common ground.
List of common ground proposed:
-men and women should seriously be using birth control and contraceptives, is it their first responsibility if pregnancy happens at all
-if pregnancy does occur, women should have a higher degree of choice (if not, entirely her choice) of what happens to the unborn child
-before having an abortion, women should have counsel from a doctor, and/or counsellor, and significant other to guide them to the right and best decision
I strongly believe there will be no law, or ordinance, or government bill that will ever "stop" or "change" how humanity will approach abortion. The best outcome is really to have specialists in the field of medicine, counselling, and family planning to help guide and support young men and young women at these critical stages in life.
