The maximum age to sign up in the US is 35. Most of the army's base is 20 or lower. It isnt a bunch of angry old men trying to protect firearms from reasonable legislation.

There is no "reasonable" legislation. It's a bunch of kneejerk responses to actually quite rare rifle murders. You seem to be under the impression that a civil war wouldn't occur within the military if one were occurring outside it. Americans are far better armed than Afghanis, and if the best we could do was spend trillions and waste thousands of lives over 20 years to replace the Taliban with the Taliban, I think the citizenry has a great chance here. You don't need to take out an Abrams, all you need to take out is its fuel truck.
