What'd Kyle Rittenhouse do? My understanding was that he was helping stand guard at a business during a riotous period to prevent a business from being burned down (terrorized), he was attacked by multiple people, and far from "freaking out" or doing anything "extreme" he refrained from using his firearm until after he was taken to the ground AND somebody else shot a firearm. At which point he exercised remarkable restraint in only defending himself from those who were directly and actively attacking him personally, putting his life at risk. Further, apparently he was a minor, AND at least one of those who was attacking him was a convicted sex offender of underaged persons.

I don't think Rittenhouse was a hero. I think he was stupid and he shouldn't have been there. On the flipside, self preservation is a literal right that everyone and everything has. Even a mouse will attack a cat in an attempt to save it's own life. This is a simple law of nature. Bombing a church because you don't like what they have to say when they are neither bringing violence upon you or directly attacking you is not the same as defending your own life when under direct violent attack.

E: only hate speech that calls for violence should be handled by police. If hate doesn’t call for violence and is simply just hate you should just have to deal with it. Not everyone is going to like each other, never will, just how life works. I’m not even a hateful person, I just see it how it is. There is nothing we can say to a KKK member that is going to make him stop hating people, but unless he calls for violence or attacks someone (like a bombing) he still has a right to live here.
