Obama was in his 2nd term and could not run again. Trump is actively running for reelection.

And they were wrong, and judges were held for the election. The reasoning was that Obama didn't quite have a mandate at that time. Trump doesn't have a mandate at this time, and the same course of action is appropriate. Given there is practically a civil war it is right to hold. Americans are still important and should decide their fate.

Are you saying that your side, the Republicans, were wrong? A standard was established, and you should explain why it was wrong then and right now?

The only option seriously is to fillibuster until after november and Trump is either on the way out or he got 42+% of the popular vote and wins and let him confirm.

I literally see no other way forward.

Amy Coney Barrett is the frontrunner and she will totally legislate her faith. She already says she doesn't respect precedent. An activist judge.

The filibuster is gone, thanks in no small part to Harry Reid (although yes, it was McConnell who invokes the "nuclear option" for SCOTUS appointees).

@realDonaldTrump

.@GOP We were put in this position of power and importance to make decisions for the people who so proudly elected us, the most important of which has long been considered to be the selection of United States Supreme Court Justices. We have this obligation, without delay!

Lame duck (politics), an elected official who is approaching the end of his or her tenure, and especially an official whose successor has already been elected.

the lame duck excuse is just that
an excuse
bottom line is we're in an election cycle
and we don't know who the president will be in a few months
whether there is an incumbent is neither here nor there

then it was an excuse when obama was on his way out, and the precedent should stand.

that's what i'm saying
but thanks
ultimately, none of our jibbajabba matters
we all know precedent doesn't matter to trump or mcconnell and they will try to get someone through
we'll see how that goes though
murkowski and mitt may play nice
collins will play nice if pence looks to be the tiebreaker
but that's about it

RIP RBG. I always thought the veneration of her was a bit over the top but she seemed like a decent person who moved us forward in many good ways.

Y'all argue about the dumbest shit tho.

Pretending blocking Garland was about anything more than having the power to do so is a joke.

Expecting the people who have the power not to push for a nomination out of moral integrity is a joke.

As for if waiting or moving forward would affect presidential election chances I'd say its a wash either way. I'd think waiting would make you look weak to your supports, but Trump supporters don't seem to care. And this will rile up Dems no matter what.

The president decides who he wants to nominate and the senate decides what they want to do with it, just like in 2016.

Hopefully another good pick like Gorsuch is selected, and not someone who will throw out the constitution and side with government abuses like Garland or become an activist judge with a regressive left agenda, nor a freakshow like Roberts.
