And I really dont see how the things animating the Republican base should be fundamentally unchangeable via voting. Almost all of their policy goals, perhaps with the exception of bringing back outsourced jobs in large numbers, could quite clearly be achieved if only there were large enough Republican majorities, and if Republican elected officials actually wanted to carry out the priorities of the base. (Instead of what they've done for the past few decades, namely converting the base's political energy fueled by anger over abortion, immigration or political correctness into Wall Street tax cuts and foreign wars...)
