"The whole Sandmann thing underscores the extent to which the issues that most motivate conservatives today are not amenable to remediation via electoral politics."

Truth.

Could someone please explain the meaning of this sentence to me? It sounds interesting, but I just dont get it.
Like... I know the words, but I just cant figure out what "not amenable to remediation via electoral politics" is supposed to mean in this context.

Perhaps because English is not my first language, or perhaps I'm just dense.

But the wording suggests that he postulates these things to be unchangeable, rather than just super unlikely to change, due to voting.

And I really dont see how the things animating the Republican base should be fundamentally unchangeable via voting. Almost all of their policy goals, perhaps with the exception of bringing back outsourced jobs in large numbers, could quite clearly be achieved if only there were large enough Republican majorities, and if Republican elected officials actually wanted to carry out the priorities of the base. (Instead of what they've done for the past few decades, namely converting the base's political energy fueled by anger over abortion, immigration or political correctness into Wall Street tax cuts and foreign wars...)
