Credentials help a lot. Lots of expensive letters after your name. Get the interview.

no amount of acronyms can teach the intangibles necessary to succeed in a work environment (which will dramatically shift going forward in a more-remote world) but yes, they do help. sadly a lot of people pay over the top for these expensive letters

Often, myself included an employer will pay for those expensive letters next to your name. Typically those costs are amortized over a period of time to ensure you benefit the employer making it mutually beneficial.

that’s certainly true in many areas. sadly in the USA plenty of firms have shifted it out. larger shops and certain industries you’re probably still good on that front though (my shop still offers a pretty decent amount for continued education support, for instance)

I am on the hook for all my continuing education requirements to stay licensed, 30 hours of training every two years to stay current. It can get expensive.

personally i think firms should provide the funds to maintain licensing and certs etc. for employees, especially if they make it a requirement of the position.

if i ran a shop wouldnt want to lose talent that is already accustomed to the company, is licensed and educated etc. just to save a buck

Sure, if you can produce results that warrant a $175 - $200 charge out rate with a 90% recovery and at minimum work 87.5% billable hours ill pay for your MBA that you will complete on your own time. Your salary will be 52K.

As we speak i'm doing CPD hours , online this year unfortunately due to travel restrictions. Previous years income tax update was in Chile, so virtual is a bit of a downgrade id say but its paid none the less.

Brushing up on the Family Law Act this morning and Ontario law to reduce Duffmans tax burden for when he dies.. likely while looking at tranny articles while driving to quickly in his Audi.

If I decide to start my own practice, I absolutely would cover those costs and amortize them over 12 months. I think its essential to maintaining a non-toxic workplace. Employees will always find something to bitch about but not reinvesting into their success within the firm (part of that being continued professional development) will certainly create toxicity resulting in a less productive workplace meaning less billable hours or a poor recovery rate.

Yeah, its for young people typically , those with no mortgage or car payments. The cost of an undergrad in Canada is also far less than the USA. I don't know how youth is expected to recover from a debt burden coming close to six figures that bares an interest rate of 5% +. Increasing job qualifications combined with salaries that are not keeping pace with those expected qualifications seems like an insurmountable setback for youth. Diligent people and those that posses skills above the average will still succeed but you need average workers for average positions but right now there's minimal mechanisms to fill those positions without the average person taking on to much.
