Damn, this would make a great movie. A man who wants to repeal the 13th Amendment is the leading Republican candidate in Alabama. On top of being an alleged child rapist, Roy Moore wants to take America back to a time where families "took care of each other" - yes, he actually said that. White massah takes care of his family of slaves. He and his southern gentry trophy wife have a Jewish attorney, black house servants, and "Mexican lawn guys" - so there's no possibility of them being racist.
Black voters, and especially women of color, turn out in droves to vote against this madman who wants to return America to a time when women couldn't vote and non-whites were held in chains and sold as chattel.
White conservatives who call themselves Christians do everything they can to repress the black vote. They go so far as telling women of color "this isn't you in the photo" for their hair color or stylings, for not being "dark enough" to match their driver's license... they disenfranchise hundreds and cause thousands more to vote provisionally; provisional ballots rarely swing an election, and, if an election is ceded early, they won't even matter towards the final outcome. The poll workers know this. This is their strategy.
12AM, CST. The AP calls the election for Doug Jones. A few minutes later, FOX News also calls the election for Democrat Doug Jones.
They did it. The people prevailed. People of color, and especially women of color, rose up to say, "no, this is not OK" to white conservatives who were willing to elect a child molesting bigot to the U.S. Senate during one of the most controversial administrations in our nation's history.
I would pay to watch that movie. Because it's a fucking great story, and it makes me beam with national pride.
