It's hard to argue with the points I've made so it's only natural the religious half of pard will try to derail and deflect rather than talk about something that makes them genuinely uncomfortable.

I have been thinking and there is the draw of the community feeling that people get from church, I think for a bunch of the mainstream groups this may be one of the main attractions. The "safe" feeling of belonging with like minded people who are all generally on their best behavior, typically everyone will have a similar moral base. Their kids will be safe (LOL) to let your kids play with you can leave your kids with the Sunday school teachers (probably) ..ahemm There are small group studies. The promotion of small groups at least in the umc has been significant in keeping members in the 20-50 age group. They have men's groups women's groups couple's groups etc..

If an experience like this could be replicated sans. religion I think the cause would gain considerable ground. people want to belong and feel safe, especially once they have kids.
