If we are top officials in the totalitarian government, obviously we do whatever we think will help to maintain our control because at best the total collapse of the government we’ve helped abuse the people for decades will result in our imprisonment. Likely we’ll be torn apart at the hands of the mob or hung by the neck until dead.
If we are the people who opposed that government, we appreciate the help in destroying our government. We can do this and also mourn innocents killed at the same time.
