It wasn't a false statement. There is plenty of evidence to suggest it was a Groyper fanboy, which is far right. Also, there is literal proof the FCC chairman, a trumper, went after Kimmel exclusively for Trump. It was 100% political, which is why they also threatened Fallon and Meyers.

So, the walnuts in charge realized they were going to get sued to hell, and reverted. Plain and simple.
