Politically it puts Russia at the same Level of US on the scene, while emphasizing and focusing on the existence of US spying drones in the area.
Not using a weapon to down it introduce doubt and allows a narrative pretending it wasn't an act of agression.

Imho: It makes noise that more likely arrange them, on the eyes of the masses, While others (politics, military...) simply don't appreciate the gross gesture.

I highly recommend watching this.

As it turns out the Russians have declared an exclusion zone around Crimea which countries can do for a period of time and it was violated by the US drone.

This is the best analysis I've found so far and this is why I prefer people like Scott Ritter and MacGregor because you'll never get stuff like this from MSM.

Check the reaction by US officials who want to fly more of these drones in response and have them escorted by US fighter jets near Crimea that's bristling with S400 anti aircraft systems.

This is exactly the kind of outrageous reactions I predicted a few posts back, the West thinks they can do what they please and everything Russia does is bad because Russia bad, period
