Do you think an import tariff helps poor people in America?
No. it hurts them. They have to pay more for goods.

It only helps those on the receiving end of the protectionism: members of a particular industry with political connections. It makes everyone else worse off.

Thats funny, thats what valhalls just said..

hey now, remember that i'm the one in favour of wealth redistribution as a whole as i know that would make everyone better off

but fuck me for wanting send walmart a bill for all the government handouts their employees are forced to depend on because their employer won't pay them enough to make a living right?

you're trying to justify your ideas on humanitarian grounds about the benefits it offers those in poor countries when confronted about your lack of compassion and loyalty to your fellow man and country, while preaching economic benefits to justify the same hardships you'd put your fellow man through so that you can save a buck

why not just drop the humanitarian argument and admit that it's all about money?

just say, fuck those people, fuck these people, i'ma do whatever it takes to make an extra buck no matter how many people i have to drive onto the streets

In all honesty i regard a heavy manufacturing industry as a sign of a transitioning economy, which i think is far off from the current Us economy. I have always and always will advocate the american public becoming educated to the point where nominal jobs like fabrication and assembly are held by less and less citizens. Those employments depend largely on the companies contracts, ive seen it time and time again in my town, company cant get contracts and they lay off 2000 people. Funny you dont hear about that happening in the service industry, "2000 IT phone techs laid off" is a headline youll never see.

I want to help 3rd world countries with jobs that will help the global economy while at the same time increasing the education and job skillset of the average person. The idea that we NEED medium income manufacturing jobs suggests the public cant transition into a more sophisticated industry, which is false, it just takes work.

yes im sure the elite business men of america will keep more jobs here and work harder to have their wealth redistributed...

your plan would make everyone rich for a day, and when the wealth was wasted our country would be a pit devoid of sound businesses that ran for the borders.

i hope your comment was a troll or else its completely without foresight...

Yeah those walmart devils employing millions of people and providing affordable goods and services to the masses.
They already said they are increasing wages.

We need duffhero coming in to disemploy black teens and raise prices on poor people while pretending hes a social justice warrior.
He needs to punish businesses for being successful. He is the one true economics god. Economic-Nuclear Winter is coming.

Rather than seeing walmart owners as great alleviators of poverty and raising our standard of living you try to demonize them and punish them for not doing enough.

Im really interested to hear your defense of new import tariffs on humanitarian grounds.

all the jobs and wealth didn't exactly disappear when taxes were at 90 percent for those on top, funny how cutting it to the mid 20's didn't produce the explosion of jobs some people expected now did it?

my comment with regards to walmart is about my opposition to using taxpayer money to support corporate welfare queens by paying their employees what they themselves refuse to pay

You do realize many of those people would be out of work if not for walmart right? And that people who make $0 instead of $8-10/hr qualify for more welfare?
And that forcing employers to pay more if they want to hire someone discourages them from offering jobs in that country? and particularly harms the poor and unskilled (as I showed earlier in the thread) who need the job the most?

Corporate welfare leads to jobs, it is a productive form of welfare, which can't be said about lower forms getting welfare.
