Oww, yep, that happened. Purely done for provocation, not initiated from the government, but from Wilders personally. He understood the risk as it is somewhat copying what Charlie Hebdo did. But this is ofc allowed in the Netherlands.
Thankfully he already had 24/7 police security for ~ 8+ years now, and is living in a prison making him a hard target to get. He stripped his own freedom of movement, for expressing his freedom of speech, which mostly involves criticizing the Islam.

Ppl in Pakistan are angry btw. I'm glad the police is acting to prevent any attacks over it.

I'm pinning the provocation on Wilders, that shouldn't be that surprising. The situation Wilders lives in, is proof of too much radicalization at this time. There is even more proof: a wave of terrorism. Admitting that isn't difficult, but that's not the whole story:
Wilders' predecessor was more eloquent and intelligent, he addressed the blind spot of our integration on a level we don't see today. Today's rhetoric is just polarization and putting groups against each other, making you post the way you do. His predecessor (Pim Fortuyn), got killed by a left wing extremist.
That part is not pinned on Pim kicking against the ideals the killer had held sacred, but because the killer resorted to violence. It's not something only liberal societies try to root out specifically, every society does it.

I'll tell you something though and nuance is more than you'd like ^ : Ppl faithful to the Islam are not always used to get some criticism here and there. Wilders is so extreme, (like Pim was for the left wing extremist from his perspective) that in a way they like to root that out from our society. Add that to a high dose of tribalism within religions and a minority always somewhat getting the short straws in society and you have a good potential breeding ground for ppl taking it too far. We should be wary of that risk, yet not avoid the discussion and be brave like Charly Hebdo, Pim and Geert Wilders. Discussions are needed for integration. But for those to start, you sometimes need a Pim, or perhaps even a Wilders, to come to a productive common ground eventually. When the polarization will end, we can conclude that increased efforts on both sides are needed to reach a mutual goal -> our peaceful society.

If this is a phenomenom caused by religious/cultural differences and the position in society in which minorities typically find themselves in, then why does stuff like this only happen with Muslims? If you criticize or insult the Dalai Lama, Netanyahu, the Japanese emperor, the Mexican culture or the Pope, do you see Buddhists/Jews/Japanese/Mexicans/Catholics issue death threats or resort to violence or terrorism? No, of course not. The only religion/culture that is regularly overreacting to this kind of things is the Islam.



A peaceful society is only possible if all relevant forces in a society share this peaceful society as a mutual goal. A significant percentage of Muslim immigrants does NOT share it, they want Sharia law to reign supreme. A peaceful society is not possible if one side is considering all "infidels", i.e. everyone from a different religion than their own, to be second-class human beings. And a peaceful society is, of course, also not possible if women are considered second-class citizens due to cultural or religious reasons.

/e edit so say that christianity is not much different, yet more used to criticism, in our society both religions need to be able to deal with it. /e3 and your missing other political assassinations and attacks in recent history, due to a focus on the bulk of terrorism within our wave.

/e in honesty, the Islam is getting quite a bit more at this time.
