The scary part is theres enough minorities for oprah to have a legitimate shot
Running on the gibs me dat platform is a powerful thing

Things like this make me wonder if the Dems have been getting into shrooms a bit too much.

The problem is democrats are too packed into california and new york. She could win a majority of votes by running it up there and lose the rest of the country and still not come close.

yeah, an oprah/michelle ticket would almost certainly lead to trump (or pence...) winning the midwest once again.

Depends on how they communicate their message. If they take a page from Bernie's book they will roflstomp Trump.

Trump won over Hillary because he spoke to the concerns of the common man.

Based on my experience so far with low-income rural (part of my healthcare experience to get into medical school) he's definitely not been impressive to them so far.

Trump has some real campaigning to do to win back his rural base because they're "getting real sick of his embarrassing shit." (their words, not mine)

have you heard any of the speeches that michelle gave on the campaign trail in 2016? anti-white, anti-male dentity politics is the only thing she ever talks about. oprah probably isnt that strong with white rural voters either.

trump might have some work to do to reenergize this part of his base to the same level as in 2016, but it wont be hard for him to be seen as the lesser of two evils by those voters if 2020 is a trump vs oprah/michelle race.

If that did happen we'll have entered into a whole new era of presidential politics and all bets would be off.

Trump spent a significant portion of his race talking identity politics and that didn't drive those demographics away in numbers we thought it would.

Identity politics isn't nearly as much of a factor in votes as you think it is. Most of that is just for the crowd that follows infotainment, which isn't the groups that Oprah would need to worry about.

trump was talking a lot about indentity politics in the sense that he was positioning himself as the "anti-identity-politics" candidate. he catered to those voters who were finally fed up hearing about their "white privilege" or how predatory and discriminating every single man supposedly behaves towards every single woman. he was catering to the suburban mothers who dont like the idea that their sons will have to go to a worse college or get worse jobs because they are white men and therefore on the receiving end of affirmative action and diversity quotas. he was catering to those average americans who dont see any upside in political correctness. and so on and on.

He was catering to the rural white males, in other words.

And the Hispanic and female groups didn't leave.

Thing is most people don't care about identity politics one way or another when it comes time to actually vote. They voted for Trump because he promised to bring jobs back, and the kind of jobs he promised to bring back aren't coming back. We're adding jobs, but not the high pay low skill jobs his base wants and is qualified for.

Oprah could talk identity politics all day and nobody would leave as long as she also talked enough about jobs and prosperity.

Trump will argue that the reason those jobs arent coming back is globalism which is where the america first rhetoric kicks in. He will further say that democrats block is efforts to fix it.

The key to it all is renegotiating trade deals. The general idea is to regotiate all of them and pit foreign nations against each other for access to US markets. Democrats counter by looking at each trade deal indiviudally and say renegotiating it doesnt make sense while ignoring the positive impact renegotiating all of them at once would have.

Its literally impossible to renegotiate all at once, and the reason these jobs aren't coming back is because technology has made them infeasible at the expected wages of the past. Coal jobs won't come back no matter how we negotiate trade, even coal industry leaders openly admit this.
