Trump didnt start calling it the China Virus exclusively until the media started race baiting.

Then he did it on purpose to mock them.

Trump just has beef with China.

The outrage is doublethink. It can't be called the "Chinese virus" because it's vernacular, and we must be scientific, as if linguistic short-hands aren't ubiquitous. It's wrong because it's racist, even though it's clearly a geographical reference.

It's a virus that originated in China, the "Chinese virus" is fine as a description.

Some details about the lockdown that New Zealand will move into in 2 days, for a period of 4 weeks:
https://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/article.cfm?c_id=1&objectid=12319029

What stood out to me, aside from the wage subsidies, is the following: "all rents will be frozen".

I think that's a very interesting move. What's killing most small business owners and people who just got laid off isnt the cost of groceries for a couple of months, it's the rent. At first glance, it sounds like a huge intrusion into property rights, but realistically: if all life is frozen for X weeks, why shouldnt rent payments also be frozen for the same amount of time? The same would, of course, have to apply to loan rates.

Last week, Michiganders filed 108,710 unemployment claims, a 2,100% surge from the 5,000 claims that the department normally anticipates, and far more than any period in recent history.

Literally stats two weeks into this and more people out of a job than 2008 already.

The number of people filing for unemployment benefits in the United States jumped by 70,000 last week, a first sign of the economic repercussions of the coronavirus pandemic. Across the country, 281,000 people filed for unemployment benefits between March 8 and 14, according to numbers released by the Department of Labor on Thursday.

A lot of those numbers are obviously not up to date and from all states, these are crazy numbers.

Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis President James Bullard predicted the U.S. unemployment rate may hit 30% in the second quarter because of shutdowns to combat the coronavirus, with an unprecedented 50% drop in gross domestic product.

Bullard’s grave assessment of the world’s largest economy underscores the critical need for Congress and the White House to quickly find agreement on a massive aid program.

Nintendo's critically acclaimed sequel has sold more copies in its first week on sale than the launch sales of all previous Animal Crossing games combined, including the spin-offs. The launch is 3.5 times bigger than the last game in the series, 2013's Animal Crossing: New Leaf on Nintendo 3DS, which was the previous biggest launch for the series. It is also the biggest single game launch on Nintendo Switch since the console came out, although if you combine the sales of Pokémon Sword and Shield together, those games enjoyed a bigger first week.

This only factors in physical sales, it does not include digital download numbers, which may have been higher than usual considering the concerns around the COVID-19 virus that has seen the UK Government recommend that citizens stay indoors. Nintendo does not share digital download data externally.

UK stats for newest Animal Crossing, 2nd biggest launch than Pokemon if you combine both versions. Incredible sales, UK has a robust sales tracking system for physical copies and is usually a good indication of western sales for titles. This sort of game, I think, could've not had a better launch period.

Cant imagine a better time for a new video game to come out. Whole world locked inside their homes, no sports on TV, no events going on in the city, cant go clubbing, cant go to the gym, and new movies or TV series will also stop coming out soon.

I think Doom Eternal is going to lose out more than forecasted to Animal Crossing because people will be choose a more wholesome experience with the trying times. Especially those with multiple switches at home with kids and all.
One thing is sure, this might be a repeat of Breath of the Wild in terms of crushing sales and going straight to #1 selling title of the franchise in record speed.

And you're right about gaming, twitch has insane viewership right now and Steam keeps beating records. 20 million people online 7 days ago, and then this weekend it went up to 21 million then the very next day broke to 22 million online users.

I've played like 3 hours of Doom Eternal and it definitely doesn't have the spark that Doom 2016 had. The environments all look like plastic and they sped up combat / added more mechanics beyond the point where it's intense and well into the point where it's overwhelming.

I'm very sad.

Then there's them just kinda throwing random lore at you that had no basis in the last game, and it just all feels fake.
