yes we know you are a TDS moron. No, that doesn't make me wrong.

no, camboy, of course you were not wrong. sorry about the misunderstanding. you clearly belong to several of the groups that i "excused" for their "skepticism".

i was just pointing out that somewhat intelligent and informed people, capable of critical thinking, would have been aware that the threat of a russian escalation was very real. my bad for making it sound like i could even consider you one of them.

glad we could clear that up...

At the time, sure. But since then OP has moved the goalposts from "not gonna invade" to "not a real invasion" to "okay but they aren't at the capitol" to "okay they're at the capital but only because Ukraine is basically a Nazi state and they're doing us a favor".

So I wouldn't so much say that OP was reacting with skepticism as he was just blindly following Russian propaganda.

Yeah I was watching a bunch of media with people reacting skeptically.

US intelligence has a long history of Saber rattling & spreading blatant lies to further western capital interests.

Putin has been able to stay in power for such a long time largely because of his savviness & ability to navigate situations like annexing Crimea, parts of Georgia, etc without much repercussions.

Those two factors alone are good grounds for skepticism.

Howevwr, I'd like to see anyone who isn't your typical neocon Warhawk that isn't surprised by the scale of the operation. Someone who was on the record beforehand saying something like the current actions were likely.

If you were really dialed into the situation I think there was a lot of merit to predicting a slow roll of Russian troops into separatist controlled areas.

the exact scope of the russian invasion isn't the topic though. camboy's claim was that the OP's skepticism was justified. OP outright denied there was even a threat of a russian invasion iirc. that was just blatantly wrong to anyone halfway informed and intelligent. it would have been wrong had russia not invaded at all, and it's even more so, undeniably so, now that they launched a full-blown invasion on ukraine.

let's be clear what we're talking about here. i'd be shocked if anyone outside of putin's head saw this coming as large-scale as it's currently unfolding - i sure didn't, but again, that's not the point here.

general skepticism towards american "intelligence" and corporate media: healthy and justified.
blatantly using their poor track record to downplay a universally acknowledged real threat: ignorant and / or dishonest.

denying the threat was never reasonable or intelligent, it always was being a useful idiot for russia.

Sounds like we're largely on the same page/understanding with possible confusion stemming from the ambiguity of what exactly would "serious escalations" entail.

Interesting. This will definitely drag into next week

The UK’s armed forces minister said Russia had failed to achieve its initial objectives – and fighting outside Kyiv was limited to Russian special forces units.

Speaking to BBC Radio 4’s Today programme, James Heappey said Russian aims to take key Ukrainian cities had not been successful. He said the UK did not believe Russian claims that it had taken the southeastern city of Melitopol.

“The Ukrainian resistance to the Russian advance appears extraordinary. All of Russia’s day one objectives of Kharkiv, Kherson , Mariupol, Sumy and even Melitopol, which the Russians are claiming to taken but we can’t see anything on that, are still all in Ukrainian hands.

“The fighting on the outskirts of Kyiv overnight, we understand to just be Russian spetsnaz special forces and pockets of paratroopers. The reality is the armoured columns coming down from Belarus and the north to encircle Kyiv are still way off, because they have been held off by this incredible Ukrainian resistance.”

Ukraine murdered 2 of their own soldiers in downtown Kiev today. They were attempting to dessert and fled the battle driving a technical with a ZSU anti-aircraft cannon mounted on it.

Their own people shot them dead in cold blood right in the center of Kiev. There is video, but I won't post it here - it is extremely graphic. One of the soldiers in the technical tries to jump out of the back of the vehicle, they shoot him dead instantly from close range.

The video was posted on Reddit, they tried to spin it as if it was 2 Russian saboteurs wearing Ukrainian uniforms. Absolutely false, it doesn't make sense for Russians to drive an anti-air technical completely undefended right into enemy territory.

Ukrainians are insane. They kill their own civilians, they kill their own soldiers as if it's nothing.

Seeing as the only Russian units near Kiev are some paratroopers/Spetsnaz, the likelihood of them being Ukrainians "fleeing" is highly unlikely. More likely, they were Spetsnaz, and summarily executed as spies for being out of uniform.

Compare to Western style invasions that are preceded by weeks of raining death from above. Those Russians go in on day one, no one here seems to be aware that they're actually having balls.

Outstanding example:

The air campaign of the Gulf War, also known as the 1991 bombing of Iraq, was an extensive aerial bombing campaign from 17 January 1991 to 23 February 1991. The Coalition of the Gulf War flew over 100,000 sorties, dropping 88,500 tons of bombs, widely destroying military and civilian infrastructure

We destroyed the whole country, no one cared. When you turn on your TV right now you see MSM bending over backwards to report that apartment blocks in Ukraine are being "targeted" while in reality it's collateral damage or in some cases fallout caused by downed aircraft or missiles.

NATO countries are definitely giving Putin his justification as they rush to funnel weapons into Ukraine to fight Russia.
Its such an awful half-measure. If Ukraine actually was folded into NATO we'd be obligated to defend it with our militaries and wage war against Russia. Instead, we're pussyfooting around and funneling lethal aid to Ukraine to kill Russian troops, which validates everything Russians feared about NATO expansion and opening a hostile military front in their back yard, and yet lets not kid ourselves, those weapons will be completely ineffective at propping up the Zelensky regime which is so obviously doomed right now. We're not going to save Ukraine, the most we can do is make Russia bleed the longer it stays. And what is that going to accomplish? Satisfy our spite? Nothing America and the EU has done over the past 8 years has been in the best interests of the Ukrainian people, that's for sure, and lets not pretend that this rush to recruit child soldiers to hurl molotovs at modern tanks is a humanitarian endeavor or that handing out stingers will save Ukrainian lives. Look at Afghanistan. At best you kill enough Russians to make an occupation unpalatable while inflicting 10-100x as many deaths on the Ukrainians, while completely destroying the country and its infrastructure. As opposed to... ceding Ukraine back to the Russian sphere of influence? Status quo circa 2013 as Yanukovych refused to sign the EU association agreement? What horror! Imagine how terrible the daily lives of Ukrainians would be under a Russian puppet state, as opposed to a CIA puppet state.

This is the worst possible course we're on right now. We're not holding Putin in check, we're driving a wedge into international relations that's forcing India, China and the UAE/KSA/mideast to side with Russia. We're escalating tensions with Russia without any tangible benefit. We won't stop the takeover of Ukraine, we will only worsen the humanitarian crisis and throw more fuel on the fire. What redeeming merit is there to our current strategy? Thumbing our nose at Putin isn't a reward unto itself. We don't gain when Russia loses.

What happens if Russia hits one of these weapon convoys with an airstrike like Israel loves to do to Iranian weapon shipments? Maybe even some western drivers and "special advisors" from the CIA get killed. Will we shoot back? Declare a no-fly zone? Some dogfights with Russian air force? Bring us even closer to nuclear annihilation than the cuban missile crisis as we skip right past a cold war and jump into a hot war? American has already blown its load on every possible non-military sanction and condemnation in its arsenal. All that's left is military conflict.

Or maybe our countries care more about the lives of the men we send into harm's way and don't spend their lives cheaply.

Stop licking Putin's ballsack, you might get an infection.

Stop being a fucking hypocrite and admit it's true cuz it is ^^

BTW you should take into account that Russia or better said Putin doesn't care at this point. He doesn't care about sanctions and if any foreign power dares to intervene he's going ballistic. That's basically what he said in case your memory fails you. LMK if you need link.

You can cry all day about him, nothing can be done other than imposing sanctions that are going to hurt both sides, also a factor that people seem to forget. The more sanctions, the more losses.
