The bible sounds like it was written solely by humans in an ignorant, superstitious, and cruel age.

it was written during barbaric times. doesn't mean that it doesn't work to guide you through life though.

A yes everything that has been disproven is now considered a figure of speech well how convinient indeed.
Funny how to Christians pre irrefutable proof came along, zealously believed the earth was flat and that the sun revolved around the earth? So much so that they would imprison and even put you to death if you disagreed with them.

It's hilarious that most people today consider the bible an allegorical morality tale rather than literal facts. If it's a figure of speech then it's not facts or truth by definition it's a rhetorical language devised to persuade with emotion and superstition rather than facts and data. Using amorphous language like the bible you can make it mean anything and everything you want it to be. You can't prove it or disprove it it's just a word salad of feelings and wild thoughts.

Did Jesus walk on water or was it a figure of speech? Did actual demons exist or was it a figure of speech for people acting possessed? Did God really send down 2 bears to maul 42 children or was it a moral story on respecting your elders? Did jonah really survive inside of a fish for 3 days? Or was it a typical bed time story on how you cannot outrun a God?

Most people today consider the Bible as allegorical, except when trying to disprove it then it's scrutinized as literal? Maybe you should review your high school English material, or let me know when figures of speech in literature are taken at face value.

The Bible doesn’t say anything about the sun revolving around the earth or the earth revolving around the sun. The language does seem to indicate more that the sun moves around the earth and rises and sets, but that is how it appears to people. Doesn’t have to mean it literally. People still say the sun rises and sets. Even weather forecast people. We know it doesn’t. We are not pretending it does. It is a figure of speech, or a way of talking. It isn’t literal. Therefore, we shouldn’t insist that the Bible be literal about everything either. Instead the writers used the language and perspective people understood. Our ability to fully conceptualize trivial matters such as infinity or dark matter, in the grand scheme of God and the vastness of the universe it really is silly to bring up figurative language as your gotcha.

very well said. i see who has responded and we can all see them deny reality

Human life happens at conception and eventually decays from the material world at the time of death. The soul exists before and after those events.

i have no problem with this statement

Let's take things literal when it's convenient, and not when it isn't.

take thing literal when its literal........

it would be reasonable to accept explanations as "figures of speech" are commonly understood. except it seems the ear wiggling clown in this thread.

Well if we agree that it's a figure of speech mostly I don't need to debate anything further with you. As I said in the title Christianity is a lie much like Pinocchio or guardians of the galaxy. It's an interesting story that is supposed to pass on the basic morality and some fortune cockie wisdom like the rest of religions but not to be taken literally.
This thread is mostly for TiStuff characters who debates you for his dear life as literal unquestionable truth but the moment you prove him wrong "oh it's was only meant to be figurative".

Every time you get slapped with facts and proof oh "it was figurative". Lol if it's figurative it is no longer factual and you can basically put it into another bedtime story basket. You still haven't provided proof of any kind just word salads on how you are winning.
Reasonable, maybe, probably, could of, I think, most likely, figure of speech, metaphor, alternative reality, speculation, theorycrafting etc, etc... are not facts or proof
