I'd be for it but there's no foundation for an international court system respected by all parties. Nor is there any way to build one when 200 countries can't even agree what a genocide is.

Just because there isn't one now... doesn't mean we can't make one. :)

Now, let's do the Ukraine.

Is it legal for Russia to take over the Ukraine?
Well that depends.
Is the Ukraine a part of Russia that's trying to secede? If so, then it's legal for Russia to "take it back".
If the Ukraine was never a legal part of Russia, then no, it's not legal for Russia to take over the Ukraine.

Pretty much the same for the Uyghurs, btw. It depends.
If the Uyghurs are not "from China" and are trying to grab some land and make a Uyghurs 2.0, then China has the right to deal with that.
If the Uyghurs were a separate country that China took over (which they had no right to), then they should leave them alone.

I think the problem is... the "way" we make rules.
1. We make a rule
2. Countries A and B don't fit the rule.
3. So then we make sub-rules for those grey areas. (when what we should do is re-write the 1st rule)
4. Oh noes... there are these other countries that don't fit the 1st rule with sub-rules A and B
5. So now we make new sub-rules C and D.

After a while... the original rule and it's intention are lost in the BS.

Ukraine is not a part of Russia. What are you even talking about?
Uygers are absolutely from China. They are living where their ancestors have lived for hundreds of years. They are not foreigners, they are living in their ancestral homeland.

At least learn the absolute basics before speaking about a subject dude.

I think we have an obligation to intercede in genocides of all kinds.

That sounds like a value that only you and some people hold. Not everybody feels the same way. Personally I think there is something worse than the mass killing of humans. I think countless animals being tortured in cruel and extremely painful medical experiments is a greater humanitarian concern and we should intervene. Of course you gonna say no cause it's not a value you hold. And this is exactly how I feel about your value.

Maybe you've heard of a little place called... Norfolk? :D

Proposed, big fat railway... with train cars the size of oil tankers. :-)
We don't "need" the St. Lawrence anymore.
Oops. Montreal goes out of business.

The biggest port on the Great Lakes is Duluth MN. It moves 80% of the iron ore mined in the United States, as well as a million tons of grain a year. A lot of that goes overseas. Your "fat train" would have all that cargo offloaded in Detroit, put on trains to the coast, then put on other ships to continue the journey. That's excessive cost.

21+ million tons of taconite per year. Jumbo rail cars can hold 100 tons or so, and maybe 100 cars per train. 2100 trains per year. Now imagine how much rail capacity that would displace for other products, like grain or oil.

True. But it's better than paying for Canada to allow shipping it through St. Lawrence if his scenario were to happen.
