Trump had a disastrous week with the shitshow debate and his covid infection. During this time, I felt morale on the Republican side getting low, and more and more people were adopting a doomer mindset. There was a real danger that turnout from the MAGA base (the marginal voters who only come out of the woodwork for Trump, but not for generic R's) would crater. A story like this, which reminds them of what they're fighting for and what's at stake, should help counterbalance this trend. Just like the ACB hearings.
It might not be enough to get Trump reelected, but it helps stopping the bottom from falling out, and should increase the chances of denying Dems a trifecta.
Eh, it strikes me as incredibly tone deaf. If there was no COVID and no racial justice movement, I think that this could definitely move the needle by a point or two (assuming it's released at the right time). But no, this isn't going to change anyone's mind and this is a non-story from an election point of view. This really is a sad desperate attempt but I imagine that Rudy and his goons are pot committed to something that's clearly been in the works since 2018.
Goomshill has an INCREDIBLY dishonest take on the whole Burisma thing. His description of Shokin is analogous to WaPo calling al-Baghdadi an "austere religious scholar." But I suppose that's par for the course when you've read as much John Solomon as he has. We've had so many investigations by multiple agencies, both parties, etc. There is legitimate gray area but the way the right has spun this is laughable. Goom and his ilk can shout bombshell all they want but it's really a bunch of bullshit. Goom keeps talking about "troves of emails" but he linked me to PICTURES of LESS THAN FIVE emails. No forensic data, just pictures. He denies that some of these images were not in the public domain yet one of them is a SCREEN SHOT from the DNC! The fundamental difference between this and the Podesta emails is that we could actually verify their authenticity.
Now, that isn't to say that these AREN'T authentic. That's a very real possibility. My argument is that the story of how they were obtained is flat out hilarious and we have no way to actually see if they are authentic (several experts on Twitter have already pointed out flaws). Let's wait and see what happens because the NYPost is a highly questionable source. Goom is the first to say "we shouldn't jump the gun with black people being shot" so why not do the same thing here? The answer is that he's an incredibly dishonest person.
I think the real story here is how quickly and decisively Big Tech reacted to this story. We knew that they would have heavier restrictions on election related stuff due to 2016, but their reaction was pretty impressive. Were they tipped off by the intel community?
