https://www.nytimes.com/2018/10/16/us/politics/npc-twitter-ban.htmlFreedom of speech so scary. The double standards are real. You're going to ban a bunch of trolls for “intentionally misleading election-related content,” give no evidence or exactly wtf that means, but leftist smear campaigns about how Trump is literally Hitler or how he has concentration camps for brown kids, how Republicans are all racist and so on are totally fine.
The doublespeak reason they used is the worst part of it. They picked a single NPC account saying the election was on November 7th and used that as their only public reason for banning 1500+ accounts from an organic, grassroots meme. They went as far as autobanning all accounts with variants of 'npc' in their names as soon as they're created and putting a filter in that banned new accounts with gray portraits.
Its not like they said "these accounts are trolls and therefore against our rules and banned". Because twitters rule's don't actually forbid parody accounts;
>You may not impersonate individuals, groups, or organizations in a manner that is intended to or does mislead, confuse, or deceive others. While you may maintain parody, fan, commentary, or newsfeed accounts, you may not do so if the intent of the account is to engage in spamming or abusive behavior. Read more about our impersonation policy.
The simple fact is, someone in twitter's leadership felt threatened by a conservative meme and banned it. Then they lied about why they banned it.
