Knowing some people with serious toy collections, and having a rather expensive MtG collection myself, I can imagine she may well have caused thousands of dollars of damage in destroying those items. It'd be easily comparable to your partner torching your car. Certainly not justification for murder, but you do have to consider the financial gravity of what she did, and it's entirely possible she didn't realize just how serious the damage she caused was and thus probably didn't anticipate such a violent reaction. I think it'd be fair to say that most people who don't deal with collectibles don't really understand how irreplaceable / costly a lot of that stuff is because they think "it's just a bunch of kids toys".
