That is certainly a possibility. I think it's more likely either a radical unbalanced leftist, Or second most likely A Disgruntled Republican attempting to save what he thinks as of the republican party

It's not about persuading partisan Democrats to vote for Trump - it's about the effect this assassination attempt will have on independents/swing voters. And it is about the effect this will have on the Democratic attempts at framing this election as a choice between democracy and fascism. Political opposition getting killed is a hallmark of fascism, so this will (further) take the wind out of the sails of framing Trump as the fascist, as the one threatening democracy and civility.

It was like 8 shots?

I could hit a barrel at 100 yards and get a group of 8 within 2" easy. More like 1.5" I feel like most people could.
