Zhu and the other sources said the American expert, Dr. Linda Quick, was a trainer of Chinese field epidemiologists who were deployed to the epicenter of outbreaks to help track, investigate and contain diseases. As an American CDC employee, they said, Quick was in an ideal position to be the eyes and ears on the ground for the United States and other countries on the coronavirus outbreak, and might have alerted them to the growing threat weeks earlier.

Quick left amid a bitter U.S. trade dispute with China when she learned her federally funded post, officially known as resident adviser to the U.S. Field Epidemiology Training Program in China, would be discontinued as of September, the sources said.

Oh boy.

Where in the world is Joe Biden?

Also, calling this virus the Chinese Virus, is racist.

What's most outlandish about this scenario is Democrats holding up necessary government functioning. They're the only party left that governs.

Wrong.

https://www.politico.com/news/2020/03/22/pelosi-coronavirus-relief-package-142261

tldr: Pelosi and McConnell didnt reach an agreement in today's talks, now Pelosi wants to draft her own House version of a coronavirus package. She's saying that she doesnt give af about the Monday deadline the Senate has set for itself, there is confusion within her own caucus about what to do or expect, and some members of her own caucus dont see what her endgame is supposed to be:

Quote
Pelosi said the two sides were “still talking” but made clear that the Monday timeframe to pass something is McConnell’s self-imposed deadline, not hers.
“It’s on the Senate side because that’s their deadline for a vote,” Pelosi said about the Monday deadline. “We'll be introducing our own bill and hopefully it will be compatible.”

Quote
Pelosi’s stance has thrown a wrench in negotiations just as McConnell is ready to close down talks altogether and vote. [...]
it’s not clear how Pelosi’s plan would work — committee chairs have been frenetically compiling ideas for a legislative package, but are not yet ready for legislative text. Members have been largely kept in the dark about which ideas will be included, though they trust leadership to compile a package.

Quote
But even some House Democrats are privately wondering what is Pelosi’s endgame, especially given that lawmakers, including many in her own caucus, don’t even want to return to Washington at all

There are some serious concerns with what Republicans are proposing though. IMO, both chambers should draft their own bills and resolve the differences in a conference committee. Obviously, both sides aren't going to get what they want in their entirety so they really need to compromise.

They just did. They voted against the bill, and it has stalled in a 47-47 vote.

In a procedural vote that unfolded after three days of fast-paced negotiations to reach a bipartisan compromise, Senate Democrats registered their opposition to the bill even as top negotiators continued to struggle behind the scenes to strike a deal. The 47-to-47 vote was a stunning setback for a package that is emerging as the largest economic stimulus measure in modern American history — now expected to cost $1.8 trillion or more.

60 votes were needed for cloture. 46 democrats voted no, 48 republicans voted yes, then mcconnell changed his vote to no as a procedural move necessary to allow a recall vote. 5 republicans are in quarantine and unavailable for the vote, not making up the 12 votes necessary for the motion.

Arent votes usually paired in the Senate when some Senators are physically unavailable to vote, but have made their approval or disapproval of the bill clear beforehand?
