Washington (CNN)Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley issued a rare rebuke Tuesday of two of President Donald Trump's most controversial judicial nominees, urging the White House to rethink the picks.

Grassley told CNN that he is advising the White House to "reconsider" the nomination of Jeff Mateer, who was selected to become a federal judge in Texas. He said the White House "should not proceed" on the nomination of Brett Talley, whom Trump picked to become a federal judge in Alabama.

"I've advised the White House they ought to reconsider," Grassley said as he left a Judiciary Committee hearing. "I would advise the White House not to proceed."

Grassley's comments amount to an unusual brake on Trump's bid to fill the judiciary with young conservative voices. The Senate has moved at an unprecedented pace this year to seat federal judges but controversy has surrounded the Mateer and Talley nominations.

Talley's nomination has already gone through the Judiciary Committee and is awaiting a vote from the full Senate. Mateer's nomination still needs committee approval.

Hasn't he been in some mad rush getting a huge number of judges rammed through? I think they could afford to ditch a fundamentalist loon in a Texas D.C. and find themselves another fundamentalist loon to replace him

I don't believe the texts have been released to the public, I'd like to read them all myself. Just from reading media reports, it looks like these two were moderate Democrats, who(like most smart people) thought Trump was a buffoon. They also didn't seem to like Hillary that much, but preferred her over Trump.

I think the justice department reviewing this stuff is absolutely appropriate, but really this is just bad PR. I'd be very surprised if any wrongdoing is found. The FBI director made it clear, agents can have political opinions. I'm sure most of the lawyers and investigators in the special counsel's office think Trump is an idiot too.

Out here in the real world, the Mueller investigation is falling apart so the Democrats are resorting to pushing sexual assault allegations.

Sen. Charles E. Grassley (R-Iowa) said that based on his discussions with the White House, the nominations of Jeff Mateer and Brett Talley would not move forward through the confirmation process. The decision comes after reports that both nominees made public comments celebrating groups or policies that were discriminatory.

So the ghost hunter turned out to be a bigot and had a conflict of interest with his wife and the white house. (Talley)
The other guy never turned in his paperwork. (Mateer)
Both were found not qualified by the ABA. But it was the social media posts that apparently did them in.

In other news. Trump's apprentice star was apparently fired by Kelly and escorted out of the building while shouting obscenities, while the press secretary claims she resigned. Either way, Omarosa is out.

Justice official downplays Republican criticism of Mueller

Republicans said they had reviewed more than 300 anti-Trump text messages exchanged last year between an FBI agent and an attorney who worked on Mueller’s probe.

I can understand agents having opinions, all people do. But I think 300 emails, not only borders on conflict of interest, but steps all the fuck over it.
Thids isn't just any 300 emails, but only those between Strzok and FBI lawyer Lisa Page.
I think that is excessive, and apparently Mueller did as well and removed Strzok. It seems that Lisa Page has not been removed, and I feel she should be.

Someone that upset with Trump should not be investigating him.
