Holy shit, what? You can get up to 5 years in prison for simply sharing RT videos? I'm just curious what if it's a real video of some event or commentary that's factual? Just because the original was made by RT, and you decide to share it on like FB or Twitter you can get actual prison time for this? What the fuck is going in Europe?
This is simply not true. Let me correct you. You can be jailed for up to 5 years if you share any information which originated in Russia, if you reside in Europe. It is not exclusive to media type (videos, shorts, interviews), it can be written or audio as well. So linking TASS news stories is now a criminal offence in Europe. As an example, if someone where to say : Putin congratulates Trump on USA 250, it could be problematic, as the source is from Russia. You might get away with it but you could be asked for your source. If there was such a headline on TASS (The Russian broadcaster) and you credited the source like this: MOSCOW, Jan 6. /TASS/ you would be criminally liable. Therefore if you live say, in Kansas, you can post what you want. because America is the land of the free.
The trend across the EU leans towards using binding legal frameworks with financial or punitive consequences to enforce compliance, whether the issue is migration or sanctions. The media law was upgraded across europe April 2024 after first being implemented in April 2022. The migrant law came into effect earlier this year.
