this provision makes it harder politically to get this bill through congress. but if they can pull it off, it's a huge victory.

and the rationale seems logical: the individual mandate is by far the least popular part of obamacare. liberal activist groups will have a much harder time rallying up people to "protect the individual mandate" compared to the summer protests to "protrect medicaid".

the particularly tricky thing about this move: if they succeed at repealing the individual mandate, obamacare will slowly collapse over time. repealing the individual mandate might be almost as good as repealing obamcare in its entirety. but the costs would probably not escalate too badly before next year's midterms... at least not badly enough to offset the political gain of finally having "repealed (what everyone hated about) obamacare".


a machiavellian move, but it can of course backfire badly if they fail to pass this bill.

I'm fist pumping over this one. The mandate was one of my biggest problems with the shitshow of Obamacare. Removing it is going to cause insurance companies to raise premiums through the roof while justifying it due to the loss of the forced consumer base. Poor white people in the South are going to fucking suffer now and it's gonna be awesome.

Which seems to suggest segregation is a bad idea because the people who are most afraid of people of other races doing them harm are the people who see the least amount of people of other races. Go figure.
