why? because both countries are wealthy and with rather low inequality//even the poorest citizens in those countries have a sufficient baseline standard of living.
Universal health care, compulsory military training, and socialism are traits of places you've described. Pretty useless comparison to the US where the bulk of people don't care to enlist and many can't get to a primary care doctor much less have regular mental health screenings.

People kill each other and themselves less without guns. Our murder and suicide rates prove it.
