It absolutely does emerge from the physical combination of things in our body. We agree on that wholeheartedly. It is not an independent thing and the body is prior.

But there is a mind and it effects the body once it emerges.

I was attacking the .metaphysics of Duffman, hardcore, materialist, whose metaphysical position i would classify as (sigh) epiphenominalism, which is a real word in the philosophy of mind.

It states that consciousness is a byproduct of matter but has no effect on the world as the universe still works by principles of scientific materialism.

I see nothing wrong with that statement.

For the record, I like to think this shit isn't actual serious stuff, but rather some fringe blogger people with nothing else better to do and thus make a big ruckus, which we all ironically give attention to. But these links, especially the second, are worthy for comedy.

Just have a laugh because this stuff writes itself.

egyptians take positive steps towards tackling obesity by removing obese role models from publicly accessible media as they're probably a bad influence on children telling them it's ok to let yourself go like that

The state-owned Egyptian television network ERTU has caused an uproar among women rights group for suspending eight of its plumper anchors and giving them a brash ultimatum: either shed a few pounds or stay home.

According to the BBC, the Egyptian Radio and Television Network (ERTU) gave the women just 30 days to slim down before they could appear on air again with what the network deems an “appropriate” appearance.

One of the anchors, Khadija Khattab, told the paper Al-Yawm al-Sabi that it should be up to the audience to decide whether the hosts were too “fat” and their appearance so unappealing that they should be suspended.

Egyptian feminists weren’t exactly pleased either—they were particularly galled because the network’s owner, Safaa Hegazy, is a woman and a former anchor herself. The Women’s Centre for Guidance and Legal Awareness, an Egyptian human rights group, condemned the measure in a Facebook post, saying it is discriminatory and violates women’s constitutional rights. They demanded that the network reverse its decision.

With nearly 70% of its population overweight or obese, cake-loving Egypt is the fattest African country and the 7th most-rotund in the world. Marshaling that fact, some social media users riled the presenters as “dumpy” and praised the cable owner for taking a courageous step in the right direction. A number of Egyptian media commentators, on the other hand, defended the women, saying the network should focus on the quality of its content rather than its anchors’ waistlines.

It is an underdetermined assumption though. Not exactly knowledge.

They're not role models, they deliver the news. You're just trying to find a phrase that sounds like 'model' to justify it when in reality the job of a news anchor is to deliver information to the public whereas a model is showcasing their body as an attractive image. What's wrong with a news anchor being a fat beast? They're telling people the news.

Note the lack of over-weight people. What the fuck happened?

People, stop trying to be PC, phony-polite and BSing about it. Our society has developed a weight problem, because livin' is too damn good. This fat or "plus size" acceptance shit is just amplifying the problem. We've grown a generation who, if they feel inconvenienced or slighted, they're accustom to crying for the world and reality to bend over backwards for them. We've taught and nurtured people to blame others instead of being responsible. Remember the lawsuits against McDonald? Fuck the fact that people can't stop themselves. No, let's sue and blame the burger joint.

I think ideas have a profound effect on the world. They exist outside and between us in collective consciousness. The Protestant Ethic for example.

No reason to assume magical mindstuff exists.

Thoughts compel us to act and thereby change/effect the world.

You cannot move or affect objects with your mind. (inb4 Malice,Card, other idiots and/or crazies disagree).
