His party did abandon its principles though. The government is larger and more authoritarian than under previous presidents. And much less effective. Look at the RINO thing....an attempt by the Tea Party to drag the party to the far right, and its pretty much worked...moderates have no home in the GOP....it is now the party of white identity politics when it used to be coherent and have actual values that wasn't white supremacy disguised as family values and tradition.

So the senate killed a rule that allowed Americans to file class-action suits against banks. 50/50 split, with pence as the tie breaker. Their argument? that by giving you the option to file a class action lawsuit, they were actually giving you less options. Go figure. All democrats and independents voted against it, and only two republicans joined the democrats. John Kennedy of Louisiana and Lindsey Graham of South Carolina.
