My hope is that this highlights the real reasons why playing bullshit politics with healthcare to protect the profits of certain industries isn't patriotic. Hopefully this leads to a real change in society.

Even within this flawed system it didn’t have to turn out the way it did. Turning away help and free testing from the WHO while simultaneously sticking thumbs up your ass was a terrible mistake. In a 1-2weeks Detroit is gonna be at max capacity at present rates, and where is the excess going to go. This is fast becoming an interstate pileup in slow motion

Technically, he didn't turn away help from the WHO. Generally the WHO only provides relief to those that request and those that have no other choice. He never requested it, and still hasn't requested it despite a shortage of supplies around the country and despite the fuck up with the first batch of kits.

I don't think testing kits would help anyone at this point. Its a PCR test run repetitively in a lab with only a 90% accuracy rate. And even then it doesn't cure the disease, it only helps for statistics and quarantine.

Increasing ICU capacity temporarily seems like the only thing that could be helpful at this point. What more can we do besides mobilizing the military to make temporary care locations?

Extensive testing and systematic quarantines for all positives is what allowed South Korea, Taiwan, Japan and Singapore to get this disease under control without issuing shutdowns. Testing IS important.

it's actually an atrocious test with a 30% false negative test. until this can be improved nothing can be accomplished realistically

Testing would be beneficial on multiple different demographics such as on providers/healthcare staff so that we aren't carrying it to patients who are susceptible and don't have it. there are many patients from risky demographics in the hospital that don't have it, that are destined to with the present approach.

we have to remember that not all of the population is destined to get it, even some at risk demographics. keeping hygiene and exposure to a minimum will always help. South Korea tested the young asymptomatic. that's what needed to happen, and early. it is just too far gone at this point and I agree the main thing you can do now is increase icu/inpatient beds and focus on decreased hospital transmission.

This has already been discussed earlier.

In addition South Korea is seeing a secondary surge in cases.
