Truth is the social construct.

I doubt anybody here can give a coherant definition of the word truth without some gaps. Or without using the word to define itself like a tautology

Truth is NOT a social construct. Truth exists outside of social constructs.

Skinned and Thor have been playing with dictionaries and books again. Must feel really weird for folks reared in the internet age. :)

/e Cracks me up.

Merriam Websters definition of truth...

b :a judgment, proposition, or idea that is true or accepted as true

truths of thermodynamics

c :the body of true statements and propositions
2 a :the property (as of a statement) of being in accord with fact or reality

How can you determine what is real with zero uncertainty?

No one can determine some things are real with absolute certainty. Like religion for example.
But the fact that the Earth generates a gravitational field, is TRUE, with absolute certainty.

Just because folks come along and butcher words and definitions as time marches onward, doesn't mean they were justified in doing so.

Like saying someone is "left" or "right" in politics...IS a social construct. But it's not TRUE. Or do all left leaning politicians have to....stand on the left?

/e This is one of the reasons I HATE labels. They don't increase understanding, they obscure it.

I don't think the Earth generating a gravitational field is true with absolute certainty.

Fields don't really exist, they are just abstractions we use to make dealing with phenomena easier. A field is not a fact, it's a convenient model to ignore the interactions of individual gravitons.

W/e. If I drop you naked out of a plane, you can argue that....all the way down. :D

/e Btw, fields do exist. Like the magnetic field around a magnet, for example. Or the Van Allen Radiation Belt, which isn't a belt, but is a field.

A fact is a social construct because where you draw the line of certainty to call something a fact is social in nature.

There are certain things that will probably always be considered facts, but a decent amount of things you take for granted are not among those things.

Magnetic fields are the result of photon-interactions, since photons are the force-carrier. Fields are good abstractions, but they aren't truth.
