Actually, upon further thought, I determined that AJ hadn't slandered the victims' parents. Slander is defined as when someone says something false that damages another person's reputation. However, the parents have no reputation to speak of. "I am the parent of a victiom of Sandy Hook shooting" is not a reputation. Therefore, AJ did not harm anybody's reputation. Hence, he didn't commit slander. He did spread falsehoods, however that in itself is not illegal.
Maybe you have a friend that knows anything about law. If so, see if they can help define reputation for you.
